Texture Explorers

Texture Explorers

We went for a walk at the weekend looking for textures. We found moss, smooth and rough bark, spiky conkers, bristly beech nuts, fluffy flowers, seed heads, shiny leafs.

We brought them home to explore the texture. We played a game first where we closed our eyes and tried to guess the textures. The children broke down the textures to make a colour palette and made an interesting tactile collage. We used the textures as paint brushes and then explored squeezing the textures into air drying clay to make texture prints. It was a lot of fun.

Other ideas are to freeze the textures , make land art with your treasures, make a textile board, make a textile map of a place using textures to represent places.
